My sister is getting married in August and I have to chauffeur the bride etc in the ol' Alfa Romeo (suitably cleaned up etc) as they want to cut costs in already very expensive wedding. So no drinking at the wedding for me then :(

Are Husi drinks this Friday at the Anchor? It's just that weather looks to be a bit shit this week.

Poll: is Lewis Hamilton going to win the F1 Championship?

Hamilton by Vulch (4.00 / 1) #1 Mon Jun 18, 2007 at 09:00:03 AM EST

The British Grand Prix will give Alonso a chance to catch up.

Young black man driving an expensive fast car? Hamilton will be pulled over by Plod every couple of hundred yards...

Ahem...

I was watching a race with my Mum by ambrosen (2.00 / 0) #2 Mon Jun 18, 2007 at 09:32:31 AM EST
a few weeks back, and he'd just got second place, and the TV coverage was in the Parc Fermé, and my Mum was completely unable to see who he was until it was only him on screen and I pointed him out then. When I was saying 'he's the one in the middle', or 'that's him, talking to Alonso, on the right', her inner 'black people can't be successful' filter came right over the fact that I was describing his exact position.

Why don't TV remotes come with laser pointers. It'd make life much easier.

The past twenty years of sucessful British black and mixed race sportsmen and women starting with Daley Thompson have seeped into her conciousness by now?

Did you say "he's the black guy in the lead" at any point, or did any excessive attempts to be race/colour blind get in the way of the descripton?

That the UK police have all but given up stopping people for speeding, allowing the revenue generating cameras to do the job for them, at the expense of road safety.

Besides, the modern politcially correct UK police force are far too busy with more important things, like harrasing the white man.

Of course, you will never hear much about this, due to the trendy left-wing bias of the UK media.

Then I'd gladly remind the parent poster of the likelihood of his anti speed-camera links being pieces of 'research' more linked to people being in denial of the vast antisocial results of their desire to indulge little twitches of their right foot wherever they wish without regard for the consequences that they have to come down like a ton of bricks on a system that makes enforcement of these regulations hundreds of times cheaper than to actual persuasive systematic studies showing any negative effects at all of speed cameras coming through at the population level.

In other words, STFU, troll account.

... the Linkies.

I found both the Bloom & Weisberg article and the Etruscan one interesting. Midway though the Etruscan one, as soon as "1200BC" was mentioned I thought, "hey, they're going to make a Troy reference later in the article, aren't they?" That having been said, it's still a bit of a non-story -- it tells us that the Etruscans, to the best of our knowledge, are related to a group from Turkey and that furthermore they likely emigrated from Turkey. But it just removes the 'question' a step -- now we have to understand that old group in Turkey.

we drove ourselves by LilFlightTest (2.00 / 0) #7 Mon Jun 18, 2007 at 03:42:30 PM EST
rather, we rode with our attendants to the church and then we all piled in a minivan to the reception, and the wonderful MostlyHarmless and Janra drove us home. we found it to be the best way to make sure nobodys drinking was limited.

sorry you have to abstain.
